Director’s Note: Hi! Thanks for considering auditioning for The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Before we get any further, there are three “buckets” of performers to choose from when auditioning.

Bucket A: Principal characters: Frollo, Quasi, Clopin, Esemeralda, and Phoebus. With the exception of Clopin, these actors will not generally be a part of the Ensemble in their off scenes. Auditions MON-TU night. Will be called 1-3x a week.

Bucket B: Ensemble and Gargoyles: Characters like Frederic, Gargoyles, King Louis, etc. AND your general Ensemble track. These actors will move to join the Choir in their off scenes, so they will not leave the stage once the show begins (except at Intermission). Although Clopin is considered a principal, they also fit into this bucket and join the choir. PLEASE NOTE: while the Gargoyles may sing with the choir, they will be visible for the entire duration of the show (except intermission). Auditions MON-TU night. Will be called 1-3x a week.

Bucket C: Choir: These performers do not want to dance and/or may need a lighter summer schedule. They will be called 1x a week for roughly the first 6 weeks. They will not leave the stage once the show begins (except at intermission). The choir will be featured in the Entract of Act II. Auditions SU night. Around week 7, may be called 1-3x per week.

Rehearsals will be:
Full cast (including choir) SUN 6-10PM starting July 5th.
2-3 additional weeknights 7-10PM depending on building and actor availability.
No actor will be called more than 3x per week.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, a dance audition, and singing. Auditioners should wear closed-toe shoes and movement clothing for the dance audition. Vocal auditions will consist of a choir audition and cuts from songs as follows:

AUDITIONERS MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL PERFORMANCES AND POSSIBLE ADDED PERFORMANCES WITHIN THE DATE RANGE OF THE RUN ALONG WITH TECH WEEK (9/13/2026-9/17/2026) REHEARSALS.

All roles are open. All auditioners must be at least 18 years of age. With exception to those ONLY auditioning for the choir, all auditioners will be asked to participate in a dance audition.
